Late last year, we announced our partnership with I LIKE NETWORKING, Writers, Emerge!
Today, we are excited to reveal that after considering an incredible 135 submissions, our selected writers are Keemia Azvine, Caroline Banerjee and Maira Rana. Their work will be published on Aurelia throughout the week of 17th January 2022. You can expect moving and uplifting essays that cover identity, love, community and more, all responding to our chosen theme of growth.
We welcomed pitches from writers of marginalised genders (women, a non-binary person and trans men). There was no age limit, however to have been eligible you must not have been published more than five times online or in print. There was some leeway with this – for example, if you had only written for student publications or volunteer-led magazines, you were still welcome to apply.
The strength of submissions proves something we have believed from the very start – that writers don’t need to have been published widely – or even at all – to be talented writers.
We hope this will encourage editors going forward to take a chance on ‘newer’ voices!
Thank you to everyone who submitted and shared – we can’t wait for you to read the selected work.
